Overview

The FRCA examinations are an integral part of the College’s assessment program. They test the knowledge, skills, behaviors, and attitudes defined by the anaesthetic training curriculum. Our examinations remain internationally recognized for their fairness and high standards. They have evolved to reflect contemporary best educational and assessment practices in anaesthesia, intensive care, and pain medicine.

Components

Primary Examinations:

Aligned with the core level training curriculum. Consist of three components: Multiple Choice Question (MCQ)

Examinations:

Tests theoretical knowledge. Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE): Assesses practical skills. Structured Oral Examination (SOE): Evaluates communication and clinical reasoning.

Final Examinations:

Aligned with the intermediate level training curriculum. Comprise the Final FRCA Written Examination and the Structured Oral Examination (SOE). Candidates must pass the written component before applying for the Final SOE.

Eligibility

Candidates must pass the Primary FRCA or have a recognized exemption before applying for the Final FRCA. Fellowship is awarded by examination, and successful candidates can use the letters FRCA after their name. International students also pursue FRCA exams, valuing it as a professional distinction.

Prioritization and Changes:

Due to demand, prioritization policies are in place for exam scheduling. The FRCA exams have been adapted to reflect contemporary best practices and guidelines.
